The piece, titled “Boom or Bust: When Did Cleavage Come Roaring Back?”, was written by Rory Satran, former Fashion Director of The Wall Street Journal and a longtime voice in fashion journalism. It examined a notable shift in fashion: the return of bolder necklines and more overt femininity on runways and red carpets alike.
The article traces this trend through a broader cultural lens, from the exuberant décolletage of the Tudor and Elizabethan courts to today’s red carpets. It considers what today’s more revealing silhouettes might signal about the current moment, from shifting gender dynamics to a renewed comfort with visible wealth and status.
I was asked to weigh in on how this plays out for my clients, professional women in tech, finance, and executive roles who are navigating this shift in a work-appropriate way.
